(मालवण ते मुंबई एस टी च्या प्रवासात बस रात्रीच्या वेळी कात्रजच्या घाटात पोहचे. खाली दरीत अगणीत काजवे लखलखत. तेथे त्यावेळी चांगलीच झाडी होती. आणखी एक गोष्ट लक्षात आली ती, सह्याद्रीची झाडे जसजसे मुंबईकडे पोहोचता तसतशी विरळ होत जाते. ठिकठिकाणी उघडे बोडके डोंगर अधिकाधिक दिसतात. शिवाजी महाराजांच्या काळी किती घनदाट जंगल असेल नाही?

आम्ही फक्त इतिहासाचा जयजयकार करण्यात कुरव कहर माजवतो: ऐतहासिक समाज व निसर्ग यांची काय स्थिती होती याकडे आमचे लक्षच जात नाही.

With the woodlands and forests vanishing, with the use of chemical pesticide and insecticides in aggressive farming, the fireflies too vanish. Where would the younger generations see the firefly? Would they comprehend what a firefly is? Is it on the TV, on the internet, or in the Natural History Museums, which most unlikely?
Firefly inadvertently represents generally the peasants and particularly the tribal who are upright people.
